Recently, I wrote a post on anime girls with short hair. Well, today I’m going get a little more specific with the hair colour because why not right? We can shed more light on more anime girls so that they get more recognition and people have more anime to watch. Everybody wins. You’ll be surprised as to how many awesome anime girls with short brown hair there are.

Hinami Fueguchi (Tokyo Ghoul)
My favourite character out of the anime girls with short brown hair is Hinami. Tokyo ghoul begins with an eighteen-year-old University freshman who is the main character of our story. He’s a little shy around the ladies but still manages to land a date with a girl. On their date, however, she takes a bite out of his shoulder. You see she is a ghoul, a human-like creature that hunts and devours human flesh. Ghouls can’t eat human food. When they try, they get physically ill.
No matter how much they try, they will either succumb to madness or consume the flesh of humans. While trying to eat him, their building breaks and falls. Kaneki wakes up in a hospital, but something’s a little bit different.
After some time in the hospital, Kaneki returns home. It’s there he learns to deal with hunger. On TV he learns how ghouls can’t stand human food and begins to panic, is he a ghoul too? His fears are realized however after trying to eat a cheeseburger and anything else he could find. He throws it all up and realizes he’s indeed a ghoul.
While walking down an alley, he finds another ghoul already eating a human. The ghoul hands him a piece of human flesh, but just as he does a man from behind kicks off his head. The man grabs Kaneki and pushes him against the wall. Later, another ghoul appears and fights the ghoul that was trying to kill Kaneki, but the ghoul manages to run away. She offers him the human flesh, but Kaneki was overwhelmed by emotions. She forces him to eat it, and the story progresses from there.
Hinami Fueguchi is one of my favourite characters in Tokyo Ghoul and also probably one of the most underrated. One thing I like about Hinami is, she ended up driving herself into the ghoul world, and despite all the hardships that endured and came across, she never really blamed the world around her. I always found this to be very interesting because if you look at the way a lot of characters in Tokyo Ghoul behave, you will know how different they are from her.
While other ghouls always blame the world or the circumstances that they’re thrown in for ending up becoming the way they are, Hinami does the opposite. In the course of the story, Hinami usually takes all that responsibility on herself, and she doesn’t blame anybody.
“I can’t do more than this, and I don’t care about getting revenge. I’m just sad.”
Rin Nohara (Naruto Shippuden)
Rin was a casualty of war when the enemy clan ambushed young Kakashi. We don’t know what became of her body after she died, but we all presumed that Obito either buried her body or that it was discovered by some leaf ninja and taken back to the hidden leaf for burial.
What would her family think? What about her friends? Rin was always playing the role of peacemaker during Obito and Kakashi’s many quarrels.
She reminds of a much calmer version of Sakura. She was an intellectual soldier, and it hurts not many individuals to witness her ability to learn as well as use high-level medical ninja techniques.’
At such an early age, she graduated from the Academy at the age of nine, her mastery of several high-level Jutsu was impressive. Rin is the only known jinchuriki to have died without the tailed beasts first being extracted.
She was inhabited by the three tails which tell us that it is the only known tailed beasts to have died and been revived. Rin’s favourite word was friendship, and her hobby was collecting seashells. Now that I think of it, it’s pretty interesting because the three tails is a mixed breed of a crab and a turtle and have shells all over its body.
“No, it’s okay. I know you did your best. I’ve been watching you all along.”
Nami (One Piece)
Nami is one of my ambitious anime girls with short brown hair. She is the fiery navigator of the straw hats. She is a slim orange head girl with a perpetually growing bust who first appeared in the series during the orange town arc. Nami was initially a thief and a very successful thief; however, as time went on in the east blue saga, we learn that Nami’s true passion lies within the world of cartography and navigation.
Nami has a very ambitious dream of one day being able to make a map of the entire world. We don’t know for sure whether her tragic past is holding her back from achieving the things she wants to achieve.
Nami and her sister, Narukowere, were orphans who were found on a battlefield by a marine named Bellmare. He adopted the two and settled down in Kakashi village, part of the economy islands.
Nami discovers her passion for drawing as she grew older, but Bellmare was poor and unable to provide Nami with the things she wanted.
All this led Nami to steal books on navigation which foreshadows her future skills as a thief. Despite this, Bellmare did everything he could to support Nami and her passions. However, on one especially bad day, Nami threw a tantrum and ran off.
It also happens to be the day that the fisherman pirate had arrived along and swiftly commandeered the economy islands. He demanded a fee for the lives of each adult and child which resulted in Bellmare being able to secure the lives of Nami and Chico but being unable to pay for her own life, Bellmare was murdered right in front of Nami.
“If you think I’m just another cute girl, you’re dead wrong!”
Megumin is mega mean. She’s one of the main characters in the popular series known as Konasuba. She wears an outfit that could pass as a rug, and she’s 14 years old.
She wields some devastating explosion magic. It’s hard imagining her as some people’s favourite character in Konosuba considering they’re a band of degenerates and she is the worst amongst them. She is an arc wizard with a flair for the dramatic who wields the power of explosion magic and only explosion magic. Everything would be fine except the use of her power entirely drain her of magic rendering her pretty much useless for the rest of the day
Megumin has a unique appearance, and we see her start with legs that only wear one sock. This sock is on her left leg, and the rest of her outfit is of utmost chaos.
I love the core cast of the show, especially Megumi. Most of the supporting characters are great too. The whole show is fun really, from the concept of the characters to every scene. I’m convinced, though I can’t know this, that the people who worked on this show had fun. From the performances to the voice actors to the writing, everyone is expressive and hilarious. I do know for sure that I had fun watching it.
I find Megumin’s antics hilarious and of the cutest among the anime girls with short brown hair on this list.
Aoi Hinata (Oresuki Are You The Only One Who Loves Me?)
Aoi Hinata is one of the main characters in Oresuki. Are you the only one who loves me? She is a second-year high school student and is a part of the school’s Tennis Club. She often goes by her nickname Himawari. This nickname comes from swapping the characters in her surname.
Her birthday is on the 30th of June, making her cancer, and her current age is unknown. She is a hundred and fifty-five centimetres, which makes her five foot one. She weighs a hundred and twenty-seven point eight pounds. Attention to detail, wouldn’t you say?
Now for Me, Aoi Hinata is the cutest of the girls hanging around with Jo ro. She has a very petite figure, but she makes up for her short stature with her bust size. Her hair, which is shoulder length, falls loosely and is light brown.
It is worn down with a side ponytail that is fastened with a Sunflower shaped hair clip. Her eyes are also a very light brown and they are cute when they sparkle. She is not the most popular girl in this series but admittedly I’m a bit of a sucker for her wisdom. Just like the other girls, she wears the standard school uniform with a beige cardigan over the top.
Mirai Kuriyama (Kyoukai no Kanata)
Mirai Kuriyama (Kuriyama Mirai) is the heroine of the Kyoukai no Kanata series. She is a first-year student and a member of the school’s Literary Club.
She comes from a bloodline of Spirit World Warriors who all possess blood-manipulation abilities. However, because this kind of power is considered heretical among the other Spirit World Warrior clans, she became an existence that is shunned by many. Her given name “Mirai” means “future” in Japanese.
Mirai has wavy, light brown hair, which is “soft and fluffy”, styled in a chin-length bob, with fringes reaching her eyebrows.
Mirai is typically seen wearing her school uniform, with a light pink cardigan on top, and dark-colored leggings.
The reason Mirai wears her cardigan is to conceal a bandaged wound (a gash on the right forearm in the light novels/ a round wound on the right palm in the anime). The injury serves as a way to transport her blood out of her body, whenever she needs to use her ability, to manipulate blood. In the light novels, she also wears a set of bracelets to secure the bandages to her wounds.
On top of that, she always wears a simple golden ring on her pinky finger, which seals her ability. During summer, she exchanges her cardigan for a sleeveless sweater, identical to her former cardigan in every other aspect, and wears this on top of her summer uniform.
Mirai’s most distinguishable accessory is the pair of thick-rimmed, rounded, red spectacles, which she proceeds to adorn at all times. For a short period, she temporarily switches to a pair of square grey glasses but switches back to her red ones as soon as she can. Later, Mirai’s appearance is very similar to that of her mothers, apart from her hair colour and style.
“Somewhere along the line, I had decided that I can’t interact with others. That I have no choice but to be alone, but I’ve found a new reason to stay. It’s because everyone is alone, senpai. Everyone is all alone.”
Megumi Noda (Nodame Cantabile)
While many may find success in the world of rock and roll, there is still really something to be said for classical music. In this slice of life series, we follow two classical musicians, pianist Megumi Noda in particular, as they learned the real value of classical music.
Mr Warnimont while on the tongue touched and snow-covered middle often remarks about the brilliance of Megumi Noda. It is especially true, considering she is at the early stage of her career, and yet already quite extraordinary.
Megumi doesn’t want to be famous or noteworthy and is truly in for the music because she loves it. She pours her heart, soul, and all of her emotions into each composition.
Nodame Cantabile is in my list of best romance anime with a happy ending. You can find out more anime like this here.
“We’ll be together forever, right?”
Lain Iwakura (Serial Experiment Lain)
Every once in awhile, I come across an anime that transcends a piece of entertainment and presents itself as a work of art. This show happens to be none other than the classic that is serial experiments lain. And I had no option than to add Lain to my anime girls with short brown hair list.
The mere fact that Lain is still so talked about today, almost two decades after its release is a testament to just how transcendental the series was and this is part of the reasons people still haven’t completely figured out what lain is about.
It is one of those shows that raises more questions than it answers, challenging the viewer to fill in the blanks for themselves and draw their conclusions.
Lain’s themes of technological dependence and evolution have only grown more relevant in the year since its release sending a harrowing and almost prophetic message about the dangers that arise when the line between the real world and the virtual starts to blur today. On the surface, Lain Iwakura appears to be your typical shy girl leading a regular life. However, after several occurrences and the suicide of a girl from her school, Lain is drawn into the world of the wire.
Soon after the line between what’s real and what isn’t starts to disappear as Lain begins to question her very existence. She quickly learns nothing is what it seems in this world.
“No matter where you go, everyone’s connected.”
Yui Hirasawa (K-ON)
Yui Hirasawa needs more recognition in the modern world as an A-list example of a beautiful character riding with thought-provoking values, and this is why she is on my list for anime girls with short brown hair.
Many may view Yui as something of torsade. It’s a cute girl doing cute things who liked any real defining trait. However, upon examination, she’s so much more than that. In the pilot episode, we learned that Yui is bored and without purpose.
She describes herself as a girl who loves things that are not too hot and not too cold, a girl who was sorely lacking in ambition and has a desire to do nothing but sleep on the floor. She cannot decide what school club to join and is feeling isolated.
As a friend, Holika goes out to find one without her, Yuri is left with nowhere else to turn, and being the rather clueless character that she is, decides to join the light music club under the assumption that they play easy music.
Upon arriving Yui realizes she can play the guitar which leads them to welcome her with open arms. However, upon discovering that Yui is, in fact, unable to play the guitar, the trio still pushes her to join stating that they’ll help her master the instruments. Later in the series, she masters it and realizes that even though she’s not the most gifted, she can do anything if she puts her mind to it.
“To me back then, you don’t need to worry. You’ll soon find something you can do, something you can set your heart on.”
Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Today’s show is all about childhood fantasies, adventures with time travellers, aliens with powers beyond measure. There exists a girl whose childlike imagination fill the world and make it possible for everything to exist. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a gem over time as we live our lives. Some people grow up, sometimes they have childhood fantasies that are whisked away in an instant, and replaced by boring everyday reality.
That is something that seems to be the case with Kyon. A high schooler from Japan who as far as anyone including himself can tell, is a perfectly ordinary student except for the fact that he doesn’t have a real name as everyone including his sister only refers to him as Kyon which is a nickname.
But besides that, the only really interesting thing that happens in Kyon’s life is that he meets Haruhi Suzumiya.
Most of her peers view her as needlessly eccentric. While they never question her intelligence or athletic ability, it’s her bizarre attitude towards life that makes people shy away.
“Kyon-Kun. If I become ruined for marriage, will you take me?”
Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Recently, many people have found refuge in positive media that has a feeling of unrealistic hope and a farfetched amount of optimism. Cardcaptor Sakura is just one of these series, which returned a couple of years ago in the form of Clear Card, delivering its sense of creativity and mystery onto a new generation.
Cardcaptor Sakura is an all-female group of high school buddies who joined forces to become one Of Shoujo manga’s most prolific creations. Netflix recently signed a deal to gain the rights to stream this show.
Sakura is a bubbly and happy character that uses her magic and smiles to charm everyone around her. She is an adventurer. The show’s audience is younger girls, but people from the older generation enjoy it just as much.
“In the world, there are a lot of fascinating things no living soul has ever seen!”
Ochako Uraraka (My Hero Academia)
There are multiple ways to spell Ochako’s name. There are two different ways to spell Ochaco. Within official material, in the manga, Ochaco was spelt with a K. The romanized version of the Japanese name would traditionally have a K there.
Alternatively in the anime, they replaced the K with a C so the C, makes a K sound like the name Rebecca. I’m not sure of the reason behind the change because it doesn’t make much of a difference. Uraraka is talkative and a conversation starter.
Uraraka has a quirk that affects gravity in some way. She can take objects that weigh about three tons and make them weightless using her quirk, but if she uses the power on herself, it makes her dizzy to the point of vomiting very quickly. Uraraka is your typical anime girl with short hair that is a fanboy of the main protagonist.
“So I’m gonna be a hero. I’ll make that money… so that my mom and dad can have easier lives.”
Akane Tsunemori (Psycho-Pass)
A good character is a backbone to attract viewers to a show. By showcasing a clear character arc with highs and lows, the viewer can sympathize, relate and most importantly grow alongside the character. It leaves the viewer with a sense of attachment. A well-written hero/heroine is a writers weapon by creating stakes that challenge them, which builds anticipation.
A great example of what a great executed character arc is that of Akane Tsunemori, who is my favourite character in Psycho-Pass. At the start of Psycho-Pass, she takes on a new role. She is a fresh graduate from college who is starting her new line of work in criminal investigations. She ushers the viewer a way into the world of Psycho-Pass.
Akane is new, and therefore questions and changes the way things work, which in turn helps the viewer understand the world of Psycho-Pass. Early on, she is a character that you can see being a diligent, but somewhat naive recruit. She grows on her own and becomes a believable and compelling character.
Akane graduated top of her class and had a variety of appealing jobs to choose from however she also received the highest grade for the Public Safety Bureau and served to work for the bureau to attain a sense of fulfilment and positively affect the world.
From the beginning, Akane establishes early on, that although she is trusting a system in society, she’s stubborn when it comes down to her morals.
She often gives criminals the benefit of the doubt based on her evaluation and gives them second chances to reform rather than using the Dominator and Lita mode. The dynamic between her and Kogami becomes very interesting as is a bit reminiscent of a good cop bad cop dynamic.
She can keep her crime coefficient low regardless of the situation due to her extreme mental resilience. By the end of the first season, Akane goes through tremendous change. Akane is one of the most righteous anime girls with short brown hair on this list.
“Society doesn’t always do what’s right. That’s exactly why we must live virtuous lives.”
Nadeko Sengoku (Bakemonogatari)
Originally with brown long hair, Nadeko cut her hair and kept her bangs. Cute, amenable, and reserved, Sengoku exudes a doll-like image. Averting her eyes, her bangs, and innocent face, she wants to be unnoticeable and never pushes back. She goes along with whatever others want hence making her easy to take advantage of. She internalizes this behaviour to the point that it comes naturally to her not because she enjoys being treated like a doll, but because it’s comfortable for her.
In this way, she won’t have to face the pain of rejection not only of her feelings but of her true self. She prefers to stay hidden. Bakemonogatari is full of liars. Some make no effort to hide their deceptive intentions, while others are far more insidious.
In the second season, we see how perspectives skewed our image of these characters. For the first time we get a full picture of the lies each one tells the others, recontextualizing what we previously thought we knew.
We see behind the pure white image Hana Kawa projects and we come face to face with the real Nadeko.
“You’re all grown up, so you won’t feel dirty looking at my body, right?”
Ringo (Daily Lives of High School Boys)
To sum it up for my anime girls with short brown hair is Ringo. Ringo is competitive and loves to defeat the boys. She’s usually in high spirits, but when she gets serious, she turns into something else. Like most anime characters she loves food, and when she isn’t in the competitive spirits, she is everyone’s best friend
And that’s a wrap! Here’s a cookie if you’ve made it this far. What are your thoughts on this list of anime girls with short brown hair? Are there any characters that you feel should’ve been on the list? How many of these shows have you watched, and how many from this list do you know? Leave your thoughts in the comment below. I’m up for a good discussion. Anyway, thanks for reading.
